Making your TV behave : "Have you tried turning it off and back on again?"
For better or worse, your TV is a computer
Every once in a while, our TV no longer bends to our will. First time it happened I googled for a solution and learned something.
Today’s Smart TVs do not really turn off. They sort of go into a sleep mode where most of the components in it shut down, but by no means all of them. TVs are computers these days with a CPU, memory, internet access, and of course, a monitor, all in one piece. Sometimes you have to treat them as a computer.
When they become recalcitrant, or start behaving oddly, google for how to do a soft reset. That makes all of the components reboot, just like you reboot your computer occasionally. It so far has fixed all the ills I’ve come across. Just google : <brand> <model> soft reset. For example, Sony Bravia soft reset.
A soft reset like this leaves all your data intact, like your wifi password, your premium channel list etc.
More difficult problems may require a factory reset. This sets your TV back to how it was when first received it. It does wipe all your settings and so you have to set up the TV from scratch.
Moral of the story, if your TV is acting up like computers often do, it is because it is a computer. Google for a solution and you will find a series of steps to try long before you call a repair tech.
